Nestled on the shore of the Salmon Arm Bay of Shuswap Lake and surrounded by rolling hillsides, Salmon Arm offers shops, service and facilities to meet every need. We invite you to visit and enjoy our hospitality. We know you will like what you see. Our climate is moderate with four distinct seasons. Our community is rich in culture and arts and our diversified economy includes forestry, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing and commerce.
Most of the area was settled in the late 1800s. Over the past two decades, the general population has been, on average, an older one. More recently we have been experiencing a small but steady growth in our local population, partially due to young families, either not leaving the area, or alternately moving back into the
area, as well as a growth of “young” retirees. There are still a number of working farms in the area but many have now moved away from the traditional dairy farm and are now beef producers. The majority of people in the area are employed in the tourist-related industry while others in supporting trades, such as construction, etc.
The year-round recreation, moderate climate, spectacular scenery, low stress lifestyle, and affordable housing are the attractions to urbanites, retirees, and businesses that are moving to this charming mountain community of Salmon Arm. Centrally located halfway between Vancouver and Calgary, visitors are welcome to the largest community on Shuswap Lake. With a population of approximately 16,000, Salmon Arm is the business centre of the area.
